Stiller says would be excited about Cruise film
2007-02-25
Actor Ben Stiller said on Friday he'd be excited to star alongside Tom Cruise in an updated movie version of "The Hardy Boys" book series. The proposed "Hardy Men" film, not expected to go into production until next year at the earliest, would feature brothers Frank and Joe Hardy, now adults but estranged, teaming up to solve a mystery, according to entertainment press reports. "I'm excited about the idea," Stiller said at Harvard University, where he accepted the Hasty Pudding theater troupe's Man of the Year Award. "It's one of those ideas that people have gotten ahold of early ... we'll have to see if the script comes in where it needs to be." "I'd be very excited about working with him, because I've always been a huge fan," Stiller said. Cruise, a longtime Hollywood action star of films from "Top Gun" to the "Mission: Impossible" series, has attracted more attention of late for his off-screen life, including his marriage to actress Katie Holmes, 17 years his junior, and his involvement with Scientology. Stiller's latest film, "Night at the Museum," was a hit at the box office over the holiday movie-going season. His prize, a golden pudding pot, is part of a tradition that dates to 1795 when 21 Harvard students pledged that each member of their new club would provide "a pot of hasty pudding" for each meeting. The amateur acting troupe has honored -- and embarrassed -- stars including Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Dustin Hoffman and Katharine Hepburn for 56 years. This year's female honoree, Scarlett Johansson, received her award last week.
