"Letters" wins Golden Globe for foreign film
2007-01-15
Director Clint Eastwood's searing drama about the World War Two battle for Iwo Jima from the Japanese point-of-view, "Letters from Iwo Jima," won the Golden Globe award on Monday for best foreign language film. The Japanese-language film won the honor over a competitive range of movies that included Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto," which was made in a Mayan dialect, and Spanish director Pedro Almodovar's "Volver." The Golden Globe awards are given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and are among Hollywood's top film honors.
