'Lord of the Rings' Wins Best Picture Oscar

LOS ANGELES - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," the third of a trilogy of fantasy films based on the J.R.R. Tolkien books, won the Oscar for best picture on Sunday, completing a clean sweep of all 11 categories in which it was nominated.The Oscars are the U.S. film industry's highest honors and are given out each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. The film's director, Peter Jackson, said he was "honored, touched and relieved" that the Academy finally honored a fantasy film.
