Ben Affleck's 'Gone Baby Gone' brings Boston to French film fest
2007-09-06
US actor Ben Affleck brought the seamy side of his native Boston to the Deauville Film Festival on Wednesday with the premiere of his directorial debut "Gone Baby Gone." Based on a novel by Dennis Lehane, who also wrote "Mystic River" which Clint Eastwood brought to the screen in 2003, "Gone Baby Gone" tells the story of two private investigators searching for an abducted four-year-old girl. Affleck's brother Casey plays one of the private eyes alongside Michelle Monaghan, star of "Mission Impossible III", in the drama filmed in working-class Boston. Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman play two police officers who help the pair in their search for the missing girl. Affleck, who co-wrote "Good Will Hunting" with Matt Damon, told a news conference in Deauville that he hoped to direct more films and work with actors "as talented as Casey." The annual Deauville festival of American cinema ends Sunday, with the awarding of the Grand Prize and Jury Prize. Eleven independent productions are competing this year for the Deauville Grand Prize that was last year awarded to "Little Miss Sunshine" by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
