LOS ANGELES - Key events in the history of DreamWorks SKG: 1994: Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen join forces to create a new entertainment company, aspiring to be a full-fledged studio, with a site in Playa Vista eyed as a lot. 1996: DreamWorks TV launches its biggest hit to date, "Spin City," starring Michael J. Fox, on ABC. 1997: DreamWorks releases its first theatrical feature, "The Peacemaker," directed by Mimi Leder and starring George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. 1998: DreamWorks releases its first animated film, "The Prince of Egypt." 1999: Sam Mendes' "American Beauty" is released and becomes the company's first best picture Oscar winner. 2000: Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" is a hit and the studio's second best picture Oscar winner. 2000: Electronic Arts buys DreamWorks Interactive 2001: "Shrek" establishes DreamWorks' CG animation credentials and wins the first Oscar for best animated film, spawning last year's "Shrek 2," the third-top-grossing domestic movie of all time. 2003: DreamWorks sells DreamWorks Records to Universal Music Group for a reported $100 million. 2004: DreamWorks Animation is spun off in a public offering, raising more than $900 million.
